Common tern

Scientific and Latin name : Sterna Hirundo

Description :
Height: 31 to 35 cm
Wingspan : 82 to 95 cm
Bill : The bill is bright red with a dark tip.
Legs : red and short
Weight : 90 to 150 grams
Tall as a turtledove
Wing colour: light grey feathers
Head : a black cap in summer

Diet:
Small fish are the mainstay of the Common Tern's diet, along with prawns and insects that it catches by diving into the water.

Habitat :
Coastal areas.

Inland habitat: lakes in summer, ponds and beaches surrounded by shallow water.

Migration :
It nests in England and Scotland, and in the North-west of France..

It winters in southern seas.

The common tern is a protected species in France


Lifespan: 25 years

Call: Persistant screech.

The female common tern lays 2 or 3 eggs
