Scientific and Latin name : Branta Leucopsis

Group : anatidae

Description :
height: 63 cm. It is a small goose.

Wingspan : 54 inches
Male and female have a black belly, light grey-brown stripes, some bluish grey feathers, barred in white lines and black stripes.

Diet : plants :grass, leaves, shoots and weeds on the salt-marshes. The barnacle goose is mainly vegetarian. In winter, when the grass is sparse, the barnacle goose also eats seaweed, aquatic insects, molluscs and shellfish.

Environment :
Summer: cliffs and fallen rocks on Arctic islands.
Winter: flooded fields and coastal marshes, low banks of marine bays and mud flats.

Migration :
Winter: on Scottish coast, west coast of England, Ireland and The Netherlands. Rarely in France.
Summer: Greenland, Arctic Ocean

In France, it is a protected species.

Lifespan : 19 years

Call : It's song is a high piercing yelp : "Hogoog hogoog "

It’s a good swimmer.
The female lays from 4 to 5 eggs.
In France, there are about 7260 to 9760 Barnacle geese.
